Project CHATON Starts in Tadian, Mt. Province

Tadian, Mountain Province - The CHATON project or Capacity building and Harnessing Animal gifts to Transform lives and Nurture the Environment funded by Heifer International Philippines and implemented by the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Inc. conducted a community orientation about the project and its objectives last June 29, 2009 at Kayan Elementary School.

Project CHATON aims to improve the economic conditions of poor people in barangay Kayan West, Tadian, Mountain Province. It also envisions to instill good values and promote harmony among community residents. Through the Passing of Gifts practice, participating families become donors themselves by passing on the offspring of their original livestock and other supplies to another family.

4 Region II Coops Undergo Bookkeeping Seminar

Isabela – Four associations in Isabela and Cagayan province underwent simple bookkeeping training by the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc. last July 1-2, 2010 at the Isabela Hotel, Cauayan, Isabela.

The training was part of the capacity building of tobacco farmers organizations and is intended to enable them to track and report the finances of their organization, their bamboo reforestation project, and other income generating activities. Read the rest of this entry »

PMFTC-Region I Assisted Coops Formulate Sustainability Plans

The Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation conducted a sustainability planning workshop for the Philip Morris
Philippine Manufacturing Inc. farmer beneficiaries last June 22-23, 2010 at the Santiago Cove Resort and SPA, Santiago, Ilocos Sur and on June 24-25, 2010 at the Villa D’Elita Resort, Sudipen, La Union.

Different stakeholders including the LGU, DENR, CGNI, NTA, CDA and TMI & ULPI, suppliers of PMPMI
who have been very supportive to the associations/coop on its project activities were invited for the purpose of sustaining the project after the phase-out of JVOFI. These farmers organizations have been assisted since 2008 in line with the PMFTC fuelwood reforestation project which they are envisioned to sustain on their own. Read the rest of this entry »

La Top Completes VMG workshop

A Leading Cooperative engaged in competitive and sustainable global business embodying the principles of green, safe and fair practices managed in the spirit of cooperativism by God fearing and loving people.” This is LaTop’s Vision.

A vision, mission and goal (VMG) setting and strategic planning was conducted by the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Inc. for the LaTop Multipurpose Cooperative’s new set of Board of Directors, management staff and the different committee members last June 4, 2010 at the ATI Center, Benguet State University.

La Top opens at SM Baguio

Last November 28, 2009, together with the launching of Panagbenga, the La Top Multipurpose Cooperative opened a branch in SM Supermarket Baguio through the initiative of the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation and SM Baguio. The opening was attended by Hon. Artemio Galwan, La Trinidad, Benguet Mayor, Reynaldo C. Bautista Sr., JVOFI President, Ma. Rosario R. Lopez, JVOFI Executive Director, Princess Baniaga, SM Baguio Supermarket Supervisor and several La Top Multi Purpose Cooperative board of directors.

With the opening of a stall at SM, the La Top MPC has become closer to their goal of providing fresh organic produce to the public. La Top farms yield chemical free vegetables, through environment friendly agriculture practices. Read the rest of this entry »
