PMFTC EMBRACES ORCHESTRA OF THE FILIPINO YOUTH

PMFTC, through the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Inc. (JVOFI), provided 70 luggages for the musician- scholars of the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) which they will be using when travelling to Qatar on October 26, 2018 for their first international concert at Katara Opera House. They will be joined by their Music Director and Orchestra Conductor, Maestro Joshua Dos Santos and the Ang Misyon artistic staff.

The orchestra performs in different venues across Metro Manila and several communities in the province hoping for other opportunities that can lead them to a better future as musicians. As they anticipate their long awaited performance, they trained hard and had their send-off performance last October 20, 2018 at Rockwell Business Center, Ortigas, Pasig City. Their performance included Filipino music as well pieces from Venezuela, Japan and other countries.

They also played Shostakovich’s symphony No. 12, a piece with two main themes. The first symbolizes oppression and a rallying and the second symbolizes hope and ultimately victory over the oppressors. The piece is a depiction of the Bolshevik Revolution. This is also the first time that a Filipino orchestra played such piece.

The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) is composed of students who belong to indigent families, aged 12 years old to 69, from Metro Manila and some provinces in Luzon. Ang Misyon, is an organization inspired by Venezuelan youth education program that advocates music for social change, thus establishing OFY in 2012.

Marianne Quebral, Director for Partnerships and Networking, expressed her heartfelt thanks for the luggage given to the scholars, as these are a big help to them financially.
