Community Assembly and Orientation on the IPRA law and the ADSDPP

In partnership with SMCGPPFI and NCIP Bataan, the crafting of the ADSDPP of the Ayta Magbukun of Mariveles and Bagac, Bataan under CADT Application No.: RO3-MAR-0116-200 started through a two-day community assembly last November 25 and 26, 2021.

In the community assembly, the NCIP discussed the legal basis for the development of the Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development and Protection Plan (ADSDPP) and its importance to the Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICC). NCIP Bataan previously facilitated the conduct of the free prior and informed consent (FPIC) process wherein the affected Ayta Magbukun requested the formulation of their own ADSDPP which SMC Global Power Philippines Foundation (SMCGPPFI) agreed to support.

After the orientation on the IPRA law and the ADSDPP, the LGU representatives said in their messages that they are committed to support the Aeta’s ADSDPP.

During the community assembly, they also identified the Community Working Group who will represent the 2 barangays in crafting their ADSDPP.

The project aims to firstly assist the Ayta Magbukun ICC/IPs of Brgy. Biaan Barangay Biaan, Mariveles Bataan and Barangay Saysayin, Bagac, Bataan in developing their ADSDPP that will define and protect their customary laws and practices. Secondly, it will facilitate the validation of data through general assemblies with the IP leaders and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Region 3. Thirdly, it will facilitate the approval of the ADSDPP by the Local Government Unit and lastly, it will facilitate the incorporation of the ADSDPP plan in existing LGU plans. The 6-month project is funded by SMCGPPFI.
