NEW CHAMPIONS FOR LA UNION COASTS

Participants doing a practical exercise on stranded mammal response

Ms. Leony Gagni from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture La Union teaching the participants how to detect fish caught by blasting

Participants of the training went to the Bauang Public Market for practical exercises on detection of illegally caught fish

57 fisherfolk completed the Fisheries Law Enforcement Training last October 25-27 2023 at Bauang, La Union. BFAR Region 1 and OPAG LU trained them on different fishing laws and regulations. They showed their learning through practical exercises on stranded mammal response, detecting illegally caught fish, and map navigation.

As the fisherfolk take up their new roles as fish wardens, they offer hope for the future of our oceans and the preservation of the diverse life it supports. They show how communities can actively contribute to protecting their local ecosystems.

These fisherfolk are not just protectors, but also community builders. By promoting cooperation and compliance within their communities, they are contributing to the sustainable management of our marine resources.
