Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Staff United with Millions of Volunteers Worldwide on World Cleanup Day and International Cleanup Day.

Over the past five years, JVOFI has been implementing the World Cleanup Day activities all over the country in partnership with Embrace, CSOs, and Local Government Units. This year we have mobilized over 8,000 participants to take part in cleanup activities in Manila, Marikina, Batangas, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Baguio City.

One participant shared a realization that there is a lot of waste lying around despite having street sweepers. Hopefully, people will learn to keep their garbage and throw it in proper garbage bins. Almost 24,000 kg of waste was collected.

The activities of the International Coastal Cleanup in La Union are also concurrent with the World Cleanup Day. The team from the INSPIRE project took part in a volunteer effort to clean up the coastlines of Balaoan, La Union.

A youth leader from Paraoir, Balaoan said that she has been joining cleanup activities in their community. She noticed that there was a lot of plastic waste and broken glasses. "Nais ko pong hikayatin ang iba pang kabataan para sumali rin sa mga ganitong coastal cleanup" (I would like to encourage my fellow youths to join in cleanup activities)

The observance of World Cleanup Day and International Coastal Cleanup serves as a gentle reminder for individuals and communities to incorporate more sustainable practices into their daily routines. By raising awareness about the consequences of litter and pollution, this event empowers people to reduce their ecological footprint and become advocates for a cleaner planet.
