Last March 26, 2015, the ground breaking ceremony of the construction of a gravity water system was held at Lauis Candelaria, Zambales.
The project which aims to improve the quality of life of Candelaria communities through an improved and sustained community based water system and watershed management is funded by the AES Philippine Power Foundation, Inc. (APPFI) and implemented in partnership with Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc. (JVOFI).
“What more could we ask for? This project was given to us for free and we’re not giving anything in return, just our commitment and participation. This is for you, me, us, for our children and their children” expressed one of the participants.
The project also wants to emphasize the concept of project ownership where the community will learn, participate and work together for the successful completion of the project.
The construction of the water system which started in April is expected to be completed on June 2015. The source which is the Maningor Falls will bring safe water to 620 households and 243 schools children of Candelaria.
While the construction is ongoing, the Community Water System Association (CWA) who will be the prime caretaker of the water system is being strengthened through capacity building trainings.
