Winners of the TikTok Challenge Awarded

The creative committee of the project Plastic Recovery and Recycling for Clean Coasts suggested a Tiktok Challenge to provide awareness of the effect of plastic on our environment. Tiktok, one of the popular social media throughout the Philippines and the world, was agreed by the Technical Working Group (TWG) to be used in the project’s information campaign.

The TikTok challenge, with the theme “Plastic Recovery and Recycling for Clean Coast” / “Nadalus a baybay, Nasalun-at nga ili,” was opened to all 33 coastal Barangays. The prizes were in cash amounting to ₱5,000, ₱3,500, and ₱2,500 for the first, second and third winners, respectively.

The project received eleven entries and on the 15th TWG meeting on October 6, 2022, the winners were awarded. Entry number 9, from Barangay Lingsat, San Fernando City won first prize for showcasing the cleanliness and orderliness of their barangay. They were also a Solid Waste Management national awardee and recently received the Green Ribbon Award from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). Entry number 11 from from Barangay Lingsat, San Fernando City won first prize for the cleanliness and orderliness of their barangay. Entry number 11 from Barangay Ili Norte, San Juan Second Prize, and Entry number 7 from Barangay Carlatan, San Fernando won the third prize. The other entries also received consolation prizes.

Mr. Jonathan Santiago, JVOFI Senior Manager, acknowledged the participants’ efforts in the Tiktok Challenge and encouraged them to continue inspiring the public on proper waste management through TikTok as well as other platforms.
